Abstract
PURPOSE: To realize a faithful and high-accuracy measurement for the voltage fluctuation, by measuring the fluctuation of the dynamic voltage applied to the optical fiber from the phase variation of the light itself propagating and by the optical heterodyne system.
CONSTITUTION: The zero-dimensional and primary diffracted rays 3 and 4 of the black region of the interferential light source diffracted by acoustic-optical modulator 2 enter optical fibers 8 and 7 for measurement and reference each. And the rays of different optical paths passing through mirror 9 and half-mirror 10 each interfere each other to detect the beat signal by light receiver 11. And the phase term is extracted by the FM wave detection via frequency discriminator 12, and the frequency is selected through BPF13 to be applied to lock-in amplifier 11. The reference signal sent from distortion sensitivity element 15 loaded to fiber 7 having the same frequency and a fixed phase relation as and with the above signal applied to amplifier 11 is also applied to amplifier 11. Thus the variation of the phase of the light itself propagating is measured by the heterodyne system. As a result, the fluctuation of the dynamic voltage which is caused by the phase fluctuation corresponding to the voltage fluctuation and in accordance with the dynamic fluctuation in the longer side direction of the fiber can be measured in a high accuracy.
