Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent excess metal from going around to the nonplating surface by flowing the excess metal into a metal hot dipping bath through an excess metal escaping member installed along the underside of a steel belt between a raised bath forming position and a wiping position. CONSTITUTION:A steel band 12 introduced in a gas atmospheric box 17 is supplied to the underside with a metal hot dipping bath 11 which flows molten metal in a way 15 and raises to overflow at the top edge in a nonoxidizing or reducing atmosphere. Therefore, the steel band 12 adhered with the molten metal to the underside thereof is then wiped off excess metal by gas blowing with a gas wiping nozzle 16. At the begining of this wiping an excess metal escaping roll 19 is made to contact with the underside of the steel band 12, and, when an excess molten metal flow 18 begins to adhere to the roll 19, the level of the roll 19 is lowered so as not to touch the steel belt 12. This method enables controlling the quantity of plating, equalizing the quantity of plating in the traverse direction and preventing the excess metal from going around to the nonplating surface.
