Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the molten metal leakage between a cylinder and a plunger tip by insertionally fitting the specific piston ring of material having superior corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance and high temperatue strength against molten aluminum to the outside circumference of the specific plunger tip.
CONSTITUTION: The outside circumference of a plunger tip 50 is provided with at least or more grooves 59 in which the piston rings 51 split to at least two parts so as to permit mounting despite virtual absence of spring action are mounted. A stopper hole 53 is pierced upward in the pressure generating surface of the bottom end of the tip 50 and radial holes 54 communicating the holes 53 and the grooves 52 are pierced. When the tip 50 descends at a suitable speed, the molten metal is pressurized and the pressure thereof is transmitted to the inner side of the piston ring 51 past the hole 53 and holes 54, by which the ring 51 is pressed to the inside wall of the cylinder 55 and the molten metal is thus sealed. The cylinder 55 is made of the material similar to that of the ring 51 and the tip 50 is made of the material having superior corrosion resistance, high temperature strength and moldability.
