Abstract

PURPOSE:To make distributiveness freely variable irrespective of the modes in fibers by disposing a beam splitter which is provided with vapor deposited films of continuously varying thicknesses on a glass disc and can change transmittance and reflectance through the revolution of said disc. CONSTITUTION:Input light from an optical fiber 6 is made into parallel luminous fluxes by a coupling lens 9. The luminous fluxes then reach a beam splitter 12, where the light is split to two. The reflected light is condensed to a fiber 7 by a lens 10 and the transmitted light is condensed by a lens 11 and reaches a fiber 8. This variable beam splitter 12 is formed by evaporation-depositing metal thin films of Al or the like on, for example, a glass disc and changing the thicknesses of the thin films gradually in the rotating direction. Hence, by changing the place where light falls through rotation, the extent of transmission and reflectance of light may be changed.
