Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain aminobromohydroxyanthraquinone, useful for the dye industry in high yield, by the hydrolysis of aminodibromoanthraquinone in the presence of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid in a specific amount to inhibit the formation of by-products.
CONSTITUTION: 1-Amino-2,4-dibromoanthraquinone is hydrolyzed in conc. sulfuric acid preferably ≥95(wt)% or fuming sulfuric acid (preferably ≤10%) in the presence of boric acid and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid (e.g. acetic acid, propionic acid, etc.) at 0.05W1.5 molar ratio (preferably 0.1W1.4 molar ratio) to give the aimed 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone. Preferably, the reaction temp erature is 100W140°C, and the boric acid is used at 1W3 molar ratio (based on the anthraquinone compound).
EFFECT: The compound used as a raw material for red disperse dyes provides the extremely high clearness.
