Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a mold coating material of high safety and high coating film strength by using the blend of a refractory powder base material and a thermosetting resin emulsion or the same and one or more kinds of water-soluble binders.
CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin emulsion such as phenolic resin or epoxy resin is compounded with a refractory powder base material such as zirconium or chromite. Otherwise, one or more kinds of other water-soluble binders such as alkali silicate or colloidal silica are further compounded in combination. By the combination use of these, the degradation in coating film owing to burning and carbonization of the resin in large castings, etc. which are long in the time to be exposed to molten metal and are severe in conditions can be made up. One component type in which a hardener is allowed to coexist is used for said emulsion.
