Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an easy-to-handle reflection terminator whose loss is low, by providing a transparent body which consists of a plane contacting the terminal of an optical fiber and a spherical total reflecting film having the center at one point on the optical axis of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Over the sphere of an optical transparent body 10 having a plane contacting the terminal of an optical fiber 8 and the sphere sharing an optical axis with the optical fiber 8, a total reflecting film 11 is provided. In this case, if the distance L between the plane and sphere on the optical axis is R-r(1-NA<2>)1/2/NA where (r) is the core radius of the optical fiber, NA a numerical aperture, R is the radius of the sphere, emitted light from the optical fiber 8 is reflected by the spherical reflecting film 11 to be focused on the terminal surface of the optical fiber 8. Thus, the easy-to-handle and low-loss reflection terminator is obtained.
