Abstract

PURPOSE: To control cooling water based on the estimated value of the surface temp. of an ingot and improve the accuracy of surface temp. control by determining the corrected coefft. of heat transfer from said estimated value and the actually measured value of the surface temp. and calculating the estimated value of the correct surface temp.
CONSTITUTION: The estimated value US of the surface temp. of an ingot (c) is calculated by a cooling model operator (l) from a molten steel temp. P, a casting lapse time (t), cooling water flow rates Q, (r), etc. Next, the surface temp. US' of the ingot (c) is actually measured with a surface thermometer (j). If the estimated value US and the actually measured value US' are not equal, a coefft. (h) of heat transfer is inadequate and needs be corrected. Thereupon, the operation for the correction of the coefft. of heat transfer is made by an arithmetic device (m) to determine a correct coefft. (h') of heat transfer, by which the corrected estimated value us of the corrected target surface temp. is calculated. Based on the corrected estimated value, the flow rates of cooling water are corrected, whereby the surface temp. of the ingot (c) is controlled.
