Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently manufacture very finely powdered iron oxide by introducing iron chloride vapor into an oxyhydrogen flame generated from an oxyhydrogen burner to hydrolyze the vapor at a high temp., introducing an H2-contg. gas into the combustion exhaust gas in a predetermined temp. range, and cooling the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: An O2-contg. gas and H2-contg. fuel are fed to a burner, ignited, and burned to generate an oxyhydrogen flame. Iron chloride vapor is introduced into the flame and hydrolyzed in a hot state with H2O produced in the flame. When the combustion exhaust gas contg. the resulting ferric oxide and gaseous Cl2 is cooled to 550W350°C, an H2-contg. gas is introduced into the exhaust gas to convert the gaseous Cl2 into HCl. Thus, the iron oxide is not chlorinated with gaseous Cl2 and is obtd. in a very finely powdered state. It is then separated and collected by an ordinary method with a bag filter or the like.
