Abstract

PURPOSE: To simply manufacture of porous substance useful as slow-releasing potassic fertilizer, an absorbent or an adsorbent by heating a slurry of fly ash and an aqueous soln. of KOH to form crystalline potassium zeolite, which is then washed and dried.
CONSTITUTION: A 48wt% aqueous soln. of KOH and fly ash are weighed separately and mixed so that the amount of KOH exceeds the theoretical amount to SiO2 and Al2O3 in the fly ash. The resulting slurry is heated with steam at 100W130°C under 1atm for 1W3hr to form crystalline potassium zeolite K2O.Al2O3.2SiO2. 3H2O, which is then separated by centrifugal separation or filtration, washed, dehydrated, and dried. Thus, porous potassium zeolite as slow-releasing potassic fertilizer, an absorbent or an adsorbent can be manufactured using waste fly ash.
