Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to recirculate a sufficient amount of exhaust gas also at the time of low-load operation of engine when the back pressure is low, by providing a vacuum operated type throttle valve in the exhaust system and a pressure regulating means for controlling the throttle valve operating vacuum according to the pressure difference on the opposite sides of the throttle valve.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust-gas recirculating system shown in the drawing comprises an EGR (exhaust-gas recirculation) valve 13 in EGR passage 11 extended between exhaust pipe 9 and intake pipe 7 and a pressure regulating valve 23 for controlling the level of operating vacuum acted in load chamber 17 of EGR valve 13. Further, a throttle valve 31 is provided in exhaust pipe 9, in the manner that its opening is controlled by controlling diaphragm 35 connected to rod 33. A vacuum signal from vacuum port 41 is acted to diaphragm 35 via vacuum line 39 and the diaphragm operating pressure is controlled by pressure regulating valve 43 which is operated in response to the back pressure on the upstream side of throttle valve 31. The valve 43 includes a valve body 45 for communicating vacuum line 39 selectively to the atmosphere via filter 47. Further, vacuum chamber 51 of the valve 43 is connected via back-pressure line 53 to a portion of exhaust pipe 9 on the upstream side of throttle valve 31.
