Abstract

PURPOSE:A plastic product is treated with rare gas-oxygen gas mixture plasma to modify the surface highly effectively in high electric power efficiency. CONSTITUTION:An oil rotary pump 16 makes the pressure inside the reactor 13 lower than 10<-3>mm.Hg and a rare gas and oxygen gas are fed by controlling flow meters 6a and 6b and needle valves 7a and 7b so that the ratio of the rare gas to the oxygen gas becomes (100-10)/1. The flow rate of the gas mixture is controlled to 30-300ml/min to set the pressure inside the reactor 13 to 10<-1>-5mm.Hg. In the meantime, a microwave oscillator 8 is operated to generate microwaves, which is transmitted to the plasma generator 21 where the gas mixture is made into plasma by discharging. A plastic product 15 made of, e.g., polypropylene in the reactor 13 is treated with the oxygen atoms generated by the above ionization. EFFECT:According to the method in the present invention, the treating zone can be extended in the downstream direction from the plasma generator.
