Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the sound absorbing characteristics, corrosion resistance and weather resistance of a porous sintered body made of mixture of Al alloy particles and Al particles by plating the surface and pores of the sintered body with Zn.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. Al powder of 32W60 mesh is added 3.5pts.wt. Al-Cu alloy powder of 48W100 mesh, and they are mixed to enclose the Al powder with the alloy powder. This mixture is then heated at about 655°C in a hydrogen atmosphere for 30min. The Al-Cu alloy is melted to bind and sinter the Al powder. The resulting porous sintered body with 30W50% porosity is degreased and dipped in a Zn plating bath to plate the surface and pores of the sintered body with Zn.
