Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect lamps from damage by generating laser pulses having a waveform suitable for working with excitation of exciting lamp by an overlapped discharging current through control of a DC power source and a resonance charging circuit with a semiconductor switching circuit. CONSTITUTION:A fine DC current with an auxiliary power source 9 is overlapped with a DC current flowing through a thyristor 3 from a power source 1 and a pulse current by a resonance charging circuit made with a capacitance 18 or the like to discharge an exciting flash lamp 7. This circuit can control the waveform of a discharging current by properly setting timing of gate pulses to be applied on each thyristor from a controlling circuit 29 and specified values of component elements or the like. Thus, the output waveform of a laser 11 oscillated by discharging a lamp 7 can be made suitable for the purpose of working (e.g. drilling). In addition, overlapping of DC current prevents violent flowing of large current minimizing possible damage to the lamp 7 for prolonging the life.
