Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain economical constitution of a device, by concurrently using a conventional high voltage spark plug and plasma firing plug when an engine is in operation at its low and medium load and stopping the plasma firing plug or decreasing energy fed to the plasma firing plug when the engine is in operation at high load. CONSTITUTION:An ignition signal, obtained from feeding an angle pulse detected by angle sensors 33, 37 to an ignition timing controller 42, is fed to a power transistor 53 to ignite a high voltage spark plug 27. When an engine is in operation at low and medium load, an ignition signal is transmitted to a distributor 46 through a pulse counter 43 and decoder 44 to operate a plasma firing plug 26. When the engine is in operation at high load, a pulse from the ignition advance angle controller 42 to a shift register 43 is ceased to stop plasma firing operation. Or supply energy can be also decreased. In this way, control operation of ignition energy can be performed in accordance with the load.
