Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce wear of mating cylinder material by forming a metal spray consisting of a mixed composition of self-hardening iron or iron alloy powder and alloy iron powder containing predetermined hard particles on a sliding surface of a piston ring. CONSTITUTION:A metal spray layer 2 having a mixed composition of 60-90% by weight of iron or iron alloy powder having self-hardening property, a property hardened by metal spray particles rapidly cooled with they are fused to an object by plasma metal spray or the like and 10-40% by weight of alloy iron powder containing HV1,000 or more hardness particles is formed on the sliding surface of a piston ring 1 to provide a desired piston ring. For example, high carbon steel containing 0.6% or more carbon or alloy steel containing Cr, Mo, Ni, etc. is used for powder having the self-hardening property. Also, alloy iron powder of Fe-Cr, Fe-B, Fe-Mo, etc. are used for alloy iron powder containing hard particles for example.
