Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily obtain a characteristic which is excellent in directivity, by coating the acoustic radiation surface of a piezoelectric vibrator. CONSTITUTION:A piezoelectric plate (1.0mm. thick) of lead titanate is polarized in the direction of thickness. And, the respective different parts on the upper surface (acoustic radiation surface) are coated with 3 kinds of substances whose acoustic propagation losses are different. In the figure, 21, 22, 23 and 24 show lead titanate piezoelectric thickness oscillator, methyl pentane resin, epoxy resin and epoxy resin containing tungsten, respectively, and the acoustic propagation loss is larger in order of 22, 23 and 24. The graph shows a result which has been obtained by driving a piezoelectric vibrator this invention in the water and measuring an acoustic output along the direction as indicated with an arrow 25, and curves 31, 32 show that which has hot adopted this invention and that which has adopted this invention.
