Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the tensile strength of a low-carbon boron steel contg. Si, Mn and Cr without causing quenching crack by directly quenching the steel to form a martensite structure immediately after hot rolling the steel into a wire rod.
CONSTITUTION: A low-carbon boron steel is hot rolled consisting of 0.06W0.26% C, 0.15W0.35% Si, 0.50W <0.80% Mn, 0.15W0.40% Cr, 0.0003W0.005% B and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The resulting wire rod after finish rolling is precooled and coiled with quenching to obtain a steel wire having a uniform martensite structure free from soft spots over the full length without causing quenching crack. This low-carbon high-tensile steel wire has ≥100kg/mm2 tensile strength and superior ductility.
