Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the propagation of flame and reduce the consumption of fuel, by providing a mixture reservoir in a cylinder head and orienting the open end of an accessory intake passage which connects the reservoir to a part near an intake valve, to a combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture reservoir 12 is provided in a cylinder head 6. The reservoir 12 and the part of an intake passage 2 near an intake valve 7 are connected to each other through an accessory intake passage 13. When the intake valve 7 is opened and a piston 5 is moved down, a fast accessory intake is supplied through an open end 13a to a mixture supplied to a combustion chamber 3 through the intake passage 2. Since the open end 13a is not oriented to the axis of a cylinder 4, a fast swirl is produced in the combustion chamber 3. Stable rapid flame propagation is thus caused in the process of explosion. This results in reducing fuel consumption and improving engine efficiency.
