Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity to a low temperature gas, by providing the electrode at both the sides of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte, applying the AC voltage having the frequency causing polarization of solid electrolyte mainly between both the electrodes, and making the solid electrolyte to become a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:Internal electrode 2 and external electrode 3 made of Pt are formed in the element of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte (zirconia porcelain etc.) 1 which is made cylindrical through finned tip with bottom. The AC having the frequency (1-10kHz) causing the polarization consisting mainly of crystal particle inside resistance, crystal boundary resistance and crystal particle boundary capacitance of the solid electrolyte 1 is applied from the AC power supply 5 to the electrodes 2, 3 via a capacitor 6. Thus, the temperature of the element is heated to 350 deg.C or more with the self-heating of the solid electrolyte 1, and the electrolyte 1 cannot be changed stably without causing change with faster response speed and low applied voltage in contact with the low temperature.
