NEW MATERIAL:Mandelic pyridine-N-oxide-2-yl thiol ester of formula I.
USE: It is very useful as an acylating agent for amines and hydrazines. For example, it is used as a reagent for synthesis of cephalosporin.
PREPARATION: The reaction between pyridine-N-oxide-2-thiol of formula II or its derivative and madelic acid or its derivative is conducted, in the presence of a condensation agent such as N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, when free madelic acid is used, in a solvent of dioxane or ethyl acetate at -50°CW100°C, preferably at -20°CW50°C to give the compound of formula I.
