Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the wake peaks of a single-screw high-power narrow width type ship by a method wherein a blade-shaped structure for covering an upper part of a propeller is fitted to the hull.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of the stern whiskers 5 are provided closely to the upper part of the propeller 2 at the rear part 1 of the hull, that is, closely to the highest part of propeller surfaces in such a manner as to cover the upper part of the propeller 2. Since the whiskers 5 have an aerofoil profile, a velocity in the direction toward the stern is induced in the fluid flowing into the propeller 2, so that the wake near the highest part of the propeller surfaces is accelerated and the wake peaks are reduced.
