Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of misdiscrimination at the receiving side of a light signal in spite of a change in temperature by controlling a semiconductor laser to keep an extinction ratio constant. CONSTITUTION:A light output 3 in a semiconductor laser 2 is monitored to convert the output into an electric signal. A mean value of the light output 3 is obtained by passing the signal through a low-pass filter 4 and the mean value and a reference voltage are compared by a comparator 5. A driving current applied to the semiconductor laser 2 from a driving circuit 1 is controlled by the comparison output so that the mean value of the light output 3 may be constant. A signal component cut DC by a capacitor C1 is also compared with a reference voltage by a comparator 6 and the driving current applied to the semiconductor laser 2 from the driving circuit 1 is controlled by the comparison output so that the amplitude of the light output may be constant.
