Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce preheating time and prevent nozzle clogging by making use of main preheating means from above using main burners in combination with local preheating means using auxiliary burners inserted from the bottom end of the openings of tundish nozzles. CONSTITUTION:A tundish body 1 is heated by main preheating means using main burners 3. Also, auxiliary burners 5 such as tubular burners, are inserted freely vertically movably from the bottom end of the openings of tundish nozzles 6 whereby the end parts of the nozzles and stopper 4 are locally heated. According to this method, preheating the tundish body 1 for continuous casting, the nozzles 6 and the heads of the stoppers 4 in a short time is made possible. If the heating of the nozzles 6 and the heads of the stoppers 4 is intensified further with the auxiliary burners 5 to raise temp., this is effective in preventing nozzle clogging and lapping defect of the stoppers 4 during casting.
