Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the presence or absence of niobium, vanadium, and titanium in a metallic material by using a water-containing material impregnated with mixed solutions of an acidic soln. consisting of xylenol orange and a hydrochloric acid and an L-ascorbic acid soln. CONSTITUTION:The anode end 5 of a power source 2 is abutted electricity-conductably on a metallic material 1, and absorbent cotton 3 which is a water-containing material impregnated with a coloring reagent is pinched with a pincette or the like of a good electric conductor which is a cathode 4, wherety it is brought into contact with the metallic material 1. Mixed solutions of an acidic soln. of xylenol-orange and hydrochloric acid forming the red orange complex of niobium-xylenol orange, vanadium-xylenol orange, and titanium-xylenol orange respectively by reacting with niobium, vanadium and titanium and acidic hydrochloric acid soln. and an L-ascorbic acid hiding iron while reducing trivalent iron to bivalent iron are used for the above-metnioned reagent. When prescribed current is flowed to the circuit for about 5sec, ions of niobium, vanadium and titanium elute from the metallic material 1 into the mixed solutions of the absorbent cotton 3, thereby exhibiting coloration reaction.
