Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent casting cracks by suppressing occurrences of strains during the course of cooling, by casting the molten metal of antiferromagnetic chromium invar alloy in a ceramic mold in an inert gaseous atmosphere and cooling it slowly after it is maintained at a specified temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The antiferromagnetic chromium invar alloy is melted in an inert gaseous atmosphere by using an induction furnace. This molten metal is poured into a ceramic mold and casted and it is red heated by maintaining it for ≥30min in the range defined by 1,300°CW1,100°C temperature. The molten metal is cooled slowly at ≤5°C/min cooling rate in the range defined by 1,000°CW400°C temperature so that no temperature difference is generated substantially between the surface and the central part of ingot. In this way, a sound ingot is manufactured in a industrial scale without generating minute cracks in the inside of the ingot.
