Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a drug transporting material capable of being molded, embedded or injected into the body, by mixing an atelocollagen having no antigenicity with a drug.
CONSTITUTION: A telopeptide present in the terminal parts of collagen molecules is selectively digested and removed by a proteolytic enzyme, e.g. pepsin, to give an atelocollagen having no antigenicity, which is then mixed with a drug. e.g. an anticancer agent or antibiotic, and molded into a given form and give a drug transporting material. The atelocollagen is prepared by removing the telopeptide which is the terminal parts and has the antigenicity from the collagen molecule, and has not antigenicity. The atelocollagen will not cause rejection even on mixing with a drug and application to, embedding or injection into a tissue of a living body and is capable of releasing the drug to a local part. After the release of the drug, the atelocollagen is digested and absorbed.
