Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate an easy mass production of the thick-film optical integrated circuit with a uniform quality, by attaching the optical element and forming a thick- film optical transmission line by means of a holding frame and a molding flask provided on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The holding frame 2 made by the screen print having several tens mu thickness plus the molding flask 3 formed by the exposure/development of a photosensitive film having about 100mu thickness are provided on the substrate 1 of glass, ceramics and others with a smooth surface. Then the 1st cladding layer 4 is formed with a high molecular material having a low refractive index and with a thickness smaller than the flask 2. Thereafter, the optical elements 5 and 6, etc. are attached after a positioning by the flask 2. Then the high-refractive index and transparent high molecular material is coated and cured to fill the hollow part. Thus a core layer 7 is formed with its surface having the same level as the elements 5 and 6. Then the transparent high molecular material having low-refractive index is coated on the layer 7 to obtain the 2nd cladding layer 8. In addition, the input/output optical fiber, the light emitting element and photodetector, and others are attached to form a thick-film optical integrated circuit.
