Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable dehydration without any worry for increase in the amount of dehydrated cake and inclusion of heavy metals by simply adding an acid to titled sludge to control the same to specific pH, then freeze-thawing and dehydrating the same.
CONSTITUTION: First, an acid, for example, sulfuric acid, is added to the sludge of an aeration type or putrefaction type night soil purifying tank or a mixture of these sludges, whereby the pH thereof is controlled to 1.5W4.5, more preferably 2.0W 4.0. Thereafter, this sludge is subjected to freeze-thawing in a freeze-thawing device, whereby it is sufficiently improved of dehydrating characteristic, after which it is dehydrated with a dehydrator. In such method, no flocculants to be added are necessary; hence, the cost of treatment is lower.
