Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase durability against fatigue and reliability by eliminating influence of defect on casting which is apt to be produced on the surface of connectng rod made of cast iron, in such a way that free casting is made, allowing excess metal as it is, and shot peening is applied after grinding off the excess metal part.
CONSTITUTION: The connecting member 3 of a connecting rod (A) is cast in the shape with an excessive part 4 added to the final sectional shape. Then, after removing the excessive part with a grinder 5, the ground face is processed by shot peening. The connecting rod made through these processes is free from the casting defect possibly existing at the part cut off by excessive part removing process, and thus the quality is stabilized, and reliability is enhanced.
