Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the accident of a cable easily by inserting an optical fiber along the external circumference of the cable and by monitoring its light conduction state. CONSTITUTION:Along the external circumference of the conductor of electric power cable 5, optical fiber 6 is inserted and to its one terminal, a light signal from electricity-light converter 7 is supplied. This light propagates in fiber 6 and is converted into an electric signal by light-electricity converter 12 provided at the other terminal to turn on a monitoring display lamp. If electric power cable 5 runs into a ground- fault accident, etc., its current breaks the insulator of the cable and the breaking of the fiber is caused eventually. As a result, the light transmission of fiber 6 is excluded and display lamp 10 turns off. Thus, the accident of cable 5 can easily be detected.
