Abstract

PURPOSE: To pump up seawater from a hermetic tank into a higher tank, by semi- submerging a bottom-open pressure regulating box in the sea and introducing air in the tank pressurized by the rise and fall of the tide into the hermetic tank filled with seawater.
CONSTITUTION: A pressure regulating box 3 with openings 2 on its bottom is semi-submerged in the sea, its top being exposed to the air and the secondary hermetic tank 4 being set on it. The box 3 and the tank 4 is communicated with each other by an air pipe 5. The secondary tank 4 is equipped with a pump-up pipe 7 and lift pipe 9, so that seawater can be pumped up into a reservoir 10 through the tank 4. As the pressure in the box 3 is reduced due to the fall of the tide, seawater is lifted in the secondary tank 4, while an air supply valve 11 which is open as the pressure is reduced compensates the pressure to the normal level. As the tide rises, the pressure in the box 3 is increased and seawater in the secondary tank 4 is lifted, which means that seawater is pumped up into the reservoir 10 by virtue of the natural force of the tide.
