Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a grinding wheel with high elasticity and excellent grinding capability by a construction wherein the structure of a polyvinylacetal resin grinding wheel is not made homogenous but is divided into two portions: one for grinding work and the other for the maintenance of the elasticity of the grinding wheel.
CONSTITUTION: For the manufacture of the grinding wheel, fine abrasive powders of fused alumina, silumdum, etc. as principal material are mixed with the suitable amount of polyvinylacetal resin or, if necessary, a compound of four different kinds of resins and then hardened to make a small aggregated lump which consists of abrasive powders and hardened resin after molding the material in the form of a stick and the like with the desired dimensions. A polyvinylalcohol solution is added to and mixed in the small aggregated lump made in the above mentioned process. After adding formalin and a small amount of acid to the lump and agitating, it is transferred to a mold for molding a grinding wheel and heat treated at about 40°C or above for several hours. This makes it possible to obtain a grinding wheel with high elasticity and excellent grinding capability.
