Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the accurate digital conversion of the frequency of an input signal by varying a dividing ratio by controlling an up/down counter so that a divided input signal will be in phase with a fundamental frequency signal.
CONSTITUTION: An input signal is inputted to variable divider 3, where it is divided by a dividing-ratio output from up/down counter 5 to output a division output signal to phase detector 4. On the other hand, a fundamental frequency signal from fundamental frequency oscillator 1 is inputted to phase detector 4 via phase regulator 2 to make a comparison with the phase of the division output signal and when the both disagree each other, the dividing-ratio output of counter 5 is controlled to approximate frequencies of both signals each other, in addition to a fine adjustment of phases by phase regulator 2. When both the signals get in phase, a coincidence signal is outputed from phase coincidence detector 6 and the dividing-ratio output of counter 5 at that time is extracted as the digital value of the frequency.
