PURPOSE:To secure the high-accuracy head shift and then increase the record density of the VTR by installing the microcomputer which memorizes the error of the shift amount with every step of the fixed-head VTR and then giving correction to the error amount via the operation amount of positioning. CONSTITUTION:Prior to incorporation of the head tracking device, the error is measured via high-accuracy displacement measuring unit 21 for the shift amount of shifter 22 with every track to be supplied to the memory of the microcomputer. With designation of the track No. for the head, microcomputer 23 gives rotation to pulse motor 24 to generate the pulse number up to the designated address. The result of measurement is applied to the microcomputer and then supplied to memory 25 after calculation of the error amount. When the tracking device is incorporated into the VTR to designate the track, the fine adjustment is given through shift of the head and correction of the error amount via the pulse motor. In such way, the high-accuracy shift is ensured for the head.
