Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hardness value inexpensively using a general dial gauge by magnifying the displacement of an indenter to the size of 6W8 times and measuring it with the dial gauge having predetermined scale.
CONSTITUTION: A magnifying lever 14 for magnifying the displacement of an indenter 8 to the size of 6W8 times is arranged at a Rockwell hardness tester for measuring the hardness by applying pressure to the indenter 8 by a weight 25 for a testing load. Then, the spindle 31 of a dial gauge 30 is brought into contact with the free end 14b of the lever 14. This dial gauge 30 may be a gauge which can be obtained in the market and rotates its needle by one revolution upon displacement of 1mm. The scale portion 45 of the gauge 30 is so calibrated that the scale range of 0W100 in hardness is set at 60W80% of the entire circumference of the scale portion 45 as shown. Thus, the hardness value can be readily visually read inexpensively without using special tool.
