Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title deodorized high-purity ether, solvents for e.g. paints, dyes, and ink, by treatment of crude glycol ethers with an inorganic basic compound or by distillation in the presence of the basic compound, followed by distillation of the low-oiling substances to be removed.
CONSTITUTION: A crude glycol ether, obtained by the reaction of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with an alcohol or phenol, is treated with an inorganic of the basic compound (e.g. NaOH or KOH) or distilled in the presence of the basic compound, and then purified by distillation of the low b.p. substances to be removed. Said basic compound is used in an amount of 0.01W0.1wt% based on the crude ether. Use of the inorganic basic compound converts the impurities in the ether to the substances having a larger b.p. difference from the ehter and avoids the contamination of the impurities into the main distillate of the above ether. Further, the low-boiling oiling substances whih have not been removed can be thoroughly elimi nated by the second distillation.
