Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a surface carbonized layer from being deteriorated and make the life of cathode structure long by specifying the size and density of the empty hole in the carbonized layer which is formed on the surface of the coil-shaped heating filament in a W-ThO2 alloy, within a preset range.
CONSTITUTION: The coil-shaped heating filament 1 of cathode structure which is used in electron tubes such as magnetrons uses the W alloy containing ThO2 by 0.5W4.0 weight percentage as a base material. A bedded organization of W2C and W is formed on the surface. The initial size of the empty hole which constitutes a surface carbonized layer contributing to electron emission and which exists in the C layer is less than 5μm. For the empty hole density, the number of empty holes with a diameter of 3μm or more is less than 100 per mm2. Further, it is proper that the thickness of the W2C layer should by some 10W60μm.
