Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a stable high-sensitivity picture with no blooming by substituting a picture based upon a low-sensitivity pickup signal with blooming suppressed, only in an area of a video screen where blooming occurs.
CONSTITUTION: When penetrating-light quantity variable filter 4 is not driven, the image of pickup element 5 has a blooming area and when filter 4 is driven, images without blooming are alternatively outputted from element 5 and memory 8 with a period difference of one frame, so that while a high-sensitivity signal appears from element 5, a low-sensitivity signal appears from the memory. In this period, gate circuits 9 and 13 are opened by switching circuit 12 and the output of element 5 is inputted to comparator circuit 16. Here, since the signal from the blooming area is greater than a reference value, circuit 16 close circuit 9 and opens gate circuit 10. As a result, a low-sensitivity signal is substituted only in the area where blooming occurs. Once a one-frame scan ends, circuit 12 opens circuits 10 and 14 for sumilar operation.
