Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the energy for sorting of the billets below the fixed size, their melting, etc. by bonding the other long-length billet through friction-pressure-welding to the billet below the specified size produced at the end part after cutting of a long-length billet to the fixed size.
CONSTITUTION: A long-length billet 2 is fed by a billet cutter 4 and is subsequently cut to each specified size. The short-length billet 2b below the soecified size at the trailing end after the cutting is transferred to a friction-pressure-welding machine 7 and is clamped to a rotating device 8. The billet 2b is rotated and is bonded through friction-pressure-welding to the leading end part of the succeeding long- length billet 2. The bonded billet 2b and long-length billet 2 are returned onto a conveyor 3 and is fed to the billet cutter 4. By this billet bonding method, the air bubbles at the bonded portions are surely removed and the occurrence of strength defect, corrosion, etc. of the extruded products are prevented.
