Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture clean steel, by taking out low-temp. steel into the first vessel, which has been charged previously with desulfurizing agent, and the second vessel, by transferring the steel contained in the second vessel to the first vessel, and by vaccum-degassing the steel while temp.-raising agent and oxygen gas being added to the steel.
CONSTITUTION: More than half of low-temp. molten steel at a temp. of refining termination, e.g., 1630W1700°C, is transferred from a steel-making furnace to the first vessel which has been charged with desulfurizing agent, then the residual portion is transferred to the second vessel. Subsequently, the molten steel in the second vessel is transferred to the first vessel. By this method, the discharge of slag is nearly prevented, so that rephosphorization is also prevented, and the low-phosphorus steel after refining is ready for desulfurization. Then temp.-raising agent, i.e., Al and/or carbon base agent such as CaC2 etc., and oxygen gas are added to the steel. Hereby the molten steel is vacuum degassed while being maintained at a suitable temp., so that impurities such as O, S, H are removed and clean steel is manufactured.
