Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of scale, permit post-treatment such as pH regulation, biological treatment, etc., and permit the recycling of treated water as cooling water by adding a polycarboxylic acid (or its salt) and a phosphonic acid (or its salt) to the cooling water for wastes incinerated ash dust.
CONSTITUTION: The ash 5 from the incinerator 1 is dropped into the ash takeout device 2 to cool with water, and then solids present are discharged by a conveyer (not illustrated). The cooling water overflowing from the device 2 is directed to the pit 6 from which it is sent into the pH regulating tank 8 by the pump 7 while adding 1W10wt. parts of a polycarboxylic acid (or its salt), e.g., poly(metha)acrylic acid (or its salt) amd 1wt. part of a phosphonic acid (or its salt), e.g., phosphonobutanetricarboxylic acid (or its salt) through the pipe 10 from the chemical tank 9 into the intake side of the pump 7 in such a way that the concentration of chemicals becomes 1W1000ppm (preferably 10W100ppm). Thus, scaling problem in pump and piping can be eliminated.
