Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform friction pressure welding of thin wall, small diameter pipes at high workability, by rotating a copper pipe of which end face inside is chamfered at high speed, and pressing a stationary Al pipe of which outer circumference is made adiabatic thereto to bond together.
CONSTITUTION: A copper pipe 1 of which end face inside is chamfered, and an Al pipe 2 are fitted on chucks 3. A ceramic restraining ring 4 is fitted to the outer circumference of the Al pipe 2, and this ring 4 is secured to the ring holder 5 by means of a cap 6. In this state, the copper pipe 1 is rotated at high speed, and the Al pipe 2 is pressed thereto. By this pressing, the both pipes are heated within the restraining ring 4 due to frictional heat, and this heat is maintained, so that the junction boundary of the both pipe bodies is sufficiently heated. Also, the centers of the pipes will not be deviated because of the restraining ring which works as guide. In this state, on the moment reaching to a temperature allowing joining, the rotation is stopped suddenly while maintaining the pressing force, and the pipes are cooled in air. Then, by removing burrs from the pipe inside, a joint pipe is obtained.
