Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a cheap Al alloy for a galvanic anode for use in high performance cathodic protection by adding Bi and Sn to a low Si Al-Zn alloy in a specified ratio to the Zn content.
CONSTITUTION: The Al alloy contains Zn 3W6%, Bi 0.03W0.60%, Sn 0.05W 0.70% and Si 0.03W0.07%, satisfying a ratio of the Bi+Sn content to the Zn content of 5W15:100 and a wt. ratio of Sn to Bi of 0.5W3.5:1. Since this Al alloy does not require expensive elements such as In and Ga, the manufacturing cost is low. Hg and Cd are not contained, so this alloy is used as a material for a galvanic anode causing no environmental pollution.
