Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the interference to a reproduced signal and at the same time to realize writing, by providing a magnetic reluctance effect element at the edge part of a main magnetic pole in the linear direction. CONSTITUTION:A pair of shielding magnetic layers 7 and 7' are provided vertically to a core 4 of a magnetic head, and a magnetic reluctance element 9 coated with nonmagnetic insulated layers 8 and 8' is buried between the layers 7 and 7'. A permalloy thin film is generally used for the element 9, and the thickness of this film is extremely reduced down to <=0.1mum to increase the electric resistance to some extent. In order to avoid the interference between codes, the layers 7 and 7' are provided at both surfaces of the magnetic head via the layers 8 and 8'. The magnetic flux generated from a coil 5 is made to pass through the layers 7 and 7' to form a concentrated magnetic flux at the edge of the layers 7 and 7', respectively. Then writing is carried out, and reading is performed by the element 9.
