Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an polyolefin without any reduction in the polymerization activity and stereoregularity even with molecular-weight control by hydrogenation, by the use of a Zieglar-Natta catalyst containing a cyclic polyene.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyolefin can be obtained by polymerizing an olefin using a catalytic system consisting of: (A) a solid catalytic component composed essentially of (a) a magnesium holide, (b) an aromatic carboxylic ester, and (c) a titanium halide, (B) an organoaluminum compound, and (C) a cyclic polyene. The component (a) is, e.g., a solid reaction product from anhydrous magnesium chloride, a hydroxyl group-carrying magnesium compound, and an organoaluminum compound of formula RnAlCl3-n (R is 1W20C hydrocarbon residue; n is a number satisfying the equation : 0<n≤1.5). The component (b) is, e.g., methyl benzoate. The component (c) is, e.g., TiCl4. The above process does not require any high ratio : Al/Ti, being sufficiently effective even with a molar ratio Al/Ti<50.
