Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain, in high yield, a highly stereoregular olefin polymer, by polymerizing an olefin, using a metallic oxide and crushed, solid magnesium halide treated with a titanium halide compound, and an organoaluminum compound as catalysts.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin is polymerized by contacting with a catalyst, composed of (A) a solid catalyst component, prepared by treating a metallic oxide containing silica, alumina, magnesia, titania or a double oxide thereof and a crushed magnesium halide treated with an electron-donating organic compound with a liquid titanium halide compound; and (B) an organoaluminium compound. The electron- donating organic compound is a lower alkyl benzoate, a lower alkyl p-toluylate, etc. The liquid titanium halide compound is titanium tetrachloride, benzyltrichlorotitanium, etc.
