Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a supercharged diesel engine, in which a scavenging pump chamber is formed at a lower portion of piston and a valve opened and closed in response to the engine load is provided in the said scavenging pump chamber so as to stop pumping function in the said chamber when the engine load is high, whereby it is enabled to avoid troubles possibly caused by excessive supercharging of engine when the engine load is high.
CONSTITUTION: A supercharging turbine 15 is provided in exhaust passage 14 of engine 13 and a supercharging blower 9 is provided in intake passage 12. A scavenging pump chamber 2 is formed at a lower portion of piston 3 and air compressed in this chamber 2 is passed through injector pipe 7 having oil separator 5 and blown into intake passage 12 at a portion thereof located between blower 9 and cooler 11. It is used as auxiliary air during low-load operation of engine. Further, an inlet valve 1 connected to hydraulic cylinder 17 is provided in said pump chamber 2, so that it is opened during high-load operation of engine by the function of electromagnetic valve 20 which receives signal from pressure switch PS.
