Abstract

PURPOSE: To correct the taper of a workpiece independently of whether grinding is under way or not, by moving a pair of helical gears in the axial direction and tilting a saddle as to the axis of a grindstone through nuts and gears engaged with the helical gears.
CONSTITUTION: When a workpiece 8 is tapered due to grinding, a rotation instruction is applied from a controller to a second electric motor 40 depending on the quantity and direction of the taper. A shifter is moved by the rotation of the motor 40 through gears and a screw to displace a double-helical gear 33 by a prescribed quantity in the axial direction. Two helical gears 34, 34' engaged with the double- helical gear 33 are rotated in reverse. Two nuts 19, 19' are displaced in reverse. A saddle 2 thrusted by the force of a cylinder 12 is tilted by the relative displacement between the nuts 19, 19'. Grinding is then effected to eliminate the taper of the workpiece 8.
