Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a steel tube lined with glass at the inner surface and end portions thereof, by applying a lining material contg. glass powder on the edge faces and the outer and inner surfaces of two steel tubes, which are to constitute the end portions of a glass lined tube, then the two steel tubes are baked, and by welding the two baked tubes to the both sides of a steel tube to be lined, then by heating the steel tube, into which a glass tube sealed at both ends has been inserted.
CONSTITUTION: The edge faces, inner and outer surfaces of one side of each of two steel tubes B, B, which are to constitute the end portions of a steel tube to be lined, are applied with a sludge made by mixing glass powder with clay, a floatation material, and an adhesive material, then dried, and baked at a high temp. The steel tubes B, B thus lined with glass at the edge faces, the inner and outer surfaces of each one side thereof are welded respectively to both sides of a long steel tube A. Into the tube made by welding is inserted a glass tube sealed on both ends, and is heated in a heating furnace. The glass tube is softened at a temp. 550W650°C, adhered to the inner surface of the steel tube because of the expansion of inner air, finally the glass tube is exploded at the ends thereof to complete the glass lining.
